VisBug2

Privacy Policy

VisBug2 is an open-source browser design tool. It operates locally in the webpage you explicitly activate and does not send webpage content or personal information to the VisBug2 maintainers.

The short version

Data handled by the extension

When you launch VisBug2, the extension temporarily reads the active webpage's document structure, text, styles, and layout information as necessary to display its inspection and design tools. Changes you make to the page are applied locally in that tab. This processing is the core, user-visible purpose of VisBug2.

VisBug2 does not transmit webpage content, form data, URLs, browsing history, authentication information, or other personal information to the VisBug2 maintainers or to a VisBug2-operated server.

Stored preferences

VisBug2 stores only the selected color-display format and interface color scheme using the browser's extension storage API. These settings may be synchronized between browsers or devices when browser sync is enabled. That synchronization is provided by the browser vendor under its own privacy terms; the VisBug2 maintainers do not receive or have access to these preferences.

Browser permissions

Collection, sharing, and sale

VisBug2 does not collect data on a developer-operated server. It does not sell, rent, share, or use user data for advertising, credit, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to its browser design tools. It does not load or execute remotely hosted extension code.

Retention and deletion

Changes made to a webpage are normally discarded when the page is reloaded, closed, or navigated away from. Saved display preferences remain in browser extension storage until you clear the extension's data or uninstall it. Because the maintainers do not receive this data, they hold no server-side copy to retain or delete.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Website hosting

This privacy-policy page and the VisBug2 demo are hosted by GitHub Pages. Visiting these webpages may cause GitHub to process standard connection information under the GitHub General Privacy Statement. The browser extension itself does not send data to this website.

Changes and contact

This policy may be updated when VisBug2's functionality or data practices change. The current version will remain available at this URL with its effective date.

Questions or privacy concerns can be submitted through the VisBug2 issue tracker. Please do not include confidential or sensitive personal information in a public issue.
